Committee Chairs

The LYD Committee is a team of 4 to 5 individuals.  We send application requests to:
higher education institutions such as IRSC, medical clinics, women’s shelters e.g. Mary’s
Home and other places where we may find applicants.  The committee also selects
judges for the application process.  We reach out to past award recipients to join us at
our meetings and events.  Communication is maintained with former recipients to see if
they require further assistance with their educational goals.

The Holiday Sip & Shop team creates an annual fundraising event that includes an
afternoon of shopping, sipping, and celebrating to support education by cash awards for
women continuing their education. With Limited tickets available, admission includes
drinks and hors d’oeuvres at participating businesses, access to unique vendors, live
music, raffle entries, and the chance to meet past award recipients.

In 2025, Soroptimist International of Stuart, Inc., began our first Back to School Project in partnership with St Albans Primary & Infant School

The school is located on top of the Santa Cruz mountain, in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica.

This partnership goal is to empower the teachers with the necessary resources to create a conducive learning environment. We have collected over 100 backpacks, school supplies and snack items for the children. We seek to bring some joy and smiles to this school in the most heartfelt way possible. Our efforts will help nurture the cognitive, emotional and social growth of the students.  The Soroptimist International of Stuart, Inc., will continue to acquire educational materials such as reading books, school supplies, small electronic teaching aids (projectors, iPads, laptops computers) to help support the teachers in their classrooms. Additionally, we will source clothing and personal hygiene items for distribution to those students most in need.

As part of our involvement with the school, members of the Soroptimist International of Stuart, Inc., would like to visit the school in 2026, to gain an up-close feel of how we can enhance and expand our involvement with the teachers and students of St Albans Primary & Infant School.

In 2024, Soroptimist International of Stuart, Inc., also sponsored a young mother in St Elizabeth Jamaica, to return to school to obtain her Early Childhood Certification credentials.  The effort has been a great success as the young lady has completed her Level 2 certification and is currently working on Level 3 courses.

We have also partnered with World Vision for many years. World Vision is a Christian based humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children and families, to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice in their communities worldwide. SIS supports three girls currently in Peru, Mauritania and Uganda, by providing monthly income for a safe home and educational opportunities. We also send gifts for special occasions.”

School Supplies Drive in July, Angel Tree for Christmas in December.

This team will support other committees by helping to “get the word out” in our
community through the SI Stuart Website, Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Stuart and
Palm City Chamber of Commerce events and other marketing/social media efforts.
