Dream It, Be It

Dream It Be It

Kelly Riccardo – Chair

“The Dream it Be it”  program can help middle school girls plan their future. They are given career and education resources. Girls learn about career opportunities, setting and accomplishing goals, overcoming obstacles to achieve success and moving on after setbacks. We partner with other agencies and non-profits to run this program.

So excited to share that Soroptimist International of Stuart hosted our first Dream It, Be It event in Indiantown Saturday, Nov. 15. We were thrilled to have 24 girls from Indiantown join us at @Holy Cross Catholic Church Family Center for a day exploring what their future might look like.
After a breakfast donated by Panera Bread, the girls were engaged by three speakers: Janet Hernández, Indiantown resident, who shared her journey through her AA Indian River State College, BA from Florida Atlantic University and her nearly finished Masters in Public Administration. Next, Indiantown native Caitlin Mazariegos appeared over Google Meet to share her journey through I-town schools, SFHS International Baccalaureate and the University of Florida. Caitlin, who is a chemical engineer in Asheville, NC, studied overseas, involved herself in a rotational education program that gave her exposure to all aspects of chemical engineering from business to manufacturing to delivery. She shared how she overcame challenges and urged the students to plan their futures and remember their why. Finally, @Maygan Johnson from Indian River State College shared information about certificate programs and the Promise Program.
After a lunch catered by Publix, the girls were treated to a session lead by Stacy Messier-Myron, who gave them exercises to help them clarify their values before they got to craft Dream Boards, physical representations of their goals. Several of the girls shared their work with the group.
HUGE shout outs to the DIBI Committee: Christa Louise, Nereida Steele, @Deb Wilde, @Yolanda Luce, Eula Clarke. The event would not have happened without them and Soroptimist volunteers Mary Ann Searle, Paula Austin, and Maggie Bromfield.
Enormous thanks to Kuisman Mazariegos of @National Property Maintenance for invaluable assistance at the venue.
